A fire burst roared behind them, lighting the grim sky. Zusni appeared over the rim, slashing her sword through a partial, cutting it in half at the waist. Behind her, she pulled Nuldreyin away from the horde. He shot lightning bolts into the crowd, setting free Fox and Robnob. Taz and Sparky hobbled out from the goblins at the front, tossing their victims aside.
Crucible sent his first spawned farâkas into the fray and cast a second Dragonborn Claw.

Backed up to the shore, he RapidFired Fire 1s and prayed the enemy numbers would reach their end. They didnât. Three different kinds of badges marked their forces as three armies. An ambush timed to strike when he was too far from his base to get backup or utilize his base defenses. Zusni built up a two-block high wall connecting the Claws and boxing them to the shore.
âZus, can you get a bridge started? Weâre gonna escape through the swamp.â
âYeah.â
Goblins and partials climbing over were shot down first. The wall slowed them enough to buy more time, but the numbers descending the hill continued to be shoulder to shoulder. They roared with bloodthirst and shook the ground with their charge.
Water splashed behind him. Zusni built a good start to her two-block wide bridge, slowly stepping sideways and connecting the blocks from the side like they had over the lava. The pond stretched as far left and right as he could see in the dense fog. He turned back to the wave and drank a hi-tincture.
Enemy goblins surrounded the Claws, slamming their swords into the frame and cutting its building health to a rapid decline. Both might have time to spawn one more farâkas before they were destroyed.
Before those fell, and while their long-distance attacks peppered the enemy back, they built a three-block thick wall at the front of the bridge and backtracked. Crucible shot down the last baraka bird, leaving only the ground attack. Their wall blocked them from the bridge while they turned to pick axes to break through.
âHere!â Demy shouted. She shot a vine from the other end of the bridge and caught a thick bough of a tree growing up from the swamp.
Lia took the first swing and barely caught on to the wide trunk, clawing her way up before she threw the vine back. Crucible and Nuldreyin blasted enemies as they charged onto the bridge, then one by one took the vine swing to the tree. Demy created vines to cross tree to tree, and he guided them using his Xigor Compass and the coordinates for Perdo City he found in his book. Hours later, and with his hands aching from swinging on vines, they found land again.
And restful silence.
Well, except for the beating of his heart and the pulse throbbing in his ears.
Escaped ambush!
